This new room willbe a virtual whiskybar. Here
you can talk about your favorite or less favorite
whiskies. Since this is a website dedicated to
Islay, this room willbe the only one where you can
talk about all whiskies in the world. It wouldbe
nice to read some tasting notes, some advice, some
questions, its all welcome...
Caol Ila
Hi,
First of all, nice site!
I’m also a whisky/islayfan.
I just want to tell about my
personal expierence with
Caol Ila. This whisky is for me the “best of both worlds”, it is peaty. I especially like the 18 year. Last month (x-mas) I bought the cask strenght. To be honest, you can not compare it with the other two (12 –18y).
There’s almost no peat but more lemmon.
It needs a lot of water to reach the hart of the whisky.
You must try it!
Greetings.

Yamazaki
Straight
Savor the rich, fruity aroma of Suntory YAMAZAKI. Enjoy it sip by sip, either as an
aperitif or as an after-dinner drink.
On the Rocks
On the rocks is an excellent way to appreciate the smooth flavor of Suntory YAMAZAKI.
A few drops of water reveal the whisky’s complexity.
Mixed with Water and Ice
In Japan, this style of drinking is called “Mizuwari.” This smooth, light, dry drink is ideally suited for food, especially sushi and other Japanese dishes.

PILGRIMAGE...
If you’re a believer in the holy spirit, and
you are living in Belgium, then there’s one
pilgrimage you have to undertake!
“The International malt Festival Ghent”
This festival in particular has a lot of advantages, to name some…
It’s only a 10 minute walk from the trainstation (Ghent Sint Pieters).
You can stay overnight in one of the many hotels in the heart of Ghent,
there’s a Scottish Fair at the same time as the Festival and ofcourse the Festival itself. Here you can find the best of whiskyworld! Except the traditional Scotisch whiskies you also find Irisch, Japanese, Belgian etc…
And if you’re still not happy, there’s the World Whisky Bar which serves… well almost everything that is named whisky!
So, of I went!
Last check: list of whiskies I like to taste, money, camera, trainticket, some snacks and a lot of expectation!

I’m not going to bore you with a minut by minut
rapport, but here are some highlights!
Met Teun
(from the Netherlands) always nice to see him!
Played as figurant for the local tv (AVS).
Bob Minnekeer
presented his “Whisky herbes aromes” and I had to
taste them and tell the viewer what I thought about
it! Maybe the start of a new carreer… Met my old
friend from the
Speyside
Cooperage,
had the honour to meet the distillerymanager
from
Old Pulteney
and, oh yes… tasted 13
beautiful whiskies!
The whiskies: Scapa 14y, Highland park 25y, Talisker 18y, Glenfarclas 18y, Bruichladdich 7y (wave), Bruichladdich 18y, Longrow 10y, Goldys 10y, Gouden Carolus 3y, Bowmore 16y, Springbank Marsala wood 9y, Yamakazi 18y and Adbeg Uigeadail.
I didn’t make tastingnotes, but I would like to share some thoughts. In my list the absolute winner is Bowmore 16y. Sweet, fruity, some peat and earthtones. This was my sixt or seventh whisky, but it hit me like thunder! Another interesting whisky, Bruichladdich 7y wave. A new young player in the game. This whisky is matured in bourbon casks for 7 years and then finished in Malmsey Madeira casks. A medium peated, soft en sweet whisky. Then there’s ofcourse the Gouden Carolus 3y. I had to tast this because it’s Belgian and the distillery is only 9 km from my home! Although the whisky is only 3 years it’s the best of Belgium’s “new tradition”. Personaly I think it’s released to quick. There’s a lot of potential in this whisky but it is still to playfull. I will definitly keep an eye on the evolution of this whisky!
Conclusion: An exhausted but satified believer went home with a lot of new impressions, books and whisky (festival bottling).
But most importantly, the re-newed “rocksteady” belief in our religion!
Slainte!
