This room will provide you with firsthand
information about accommodation. (Hopefully, enough
people will send in their
experience, good and bad…) so we will have a
database with
lots of neutral and honest information.
ARDTALLA COTTAGE (Ardtalla estate)
When arriving on Islay (port Ellen harbour), you will have a real "distillery catwalk" on route to Ardtalla. You will cross Laphroaig, Lagavullin and finally Ardbeg. On this point the road narrows to one-lane. Expect to drive for 20 minutes before arriving. The cottage is an old farm without electricity.
This is no problem because in summertime there's only 4 hours of darkness. the Tourist-board gave this cottage 2 stars, but I would give them as many
as there are in the sky. If you choose this kind of holiday, you know what to expect! The cottage is spacious and light. Everything is clean and taken
care of. Plenty of candles etc... The view from the garden is spectacular
(see photo). Fireplaces in almost every room and plenty of coal and peat
to burn!
